The CBSE Class 10 English syllabus for 2022-23 covers a wide range of topics, including reading comprehension, grammar, writing skills, and literature. The aim of the syllabus is to develop students’ language skills and their understanding of the world around them.

Reading Comprehension

The reading comprehension section of the syllabus focuses on developing students’ ability to read and understand different types of texts. Students will be expected to read and comprehend discursive passages, case-based passages, and literary texts.


The grammar section of the syllabus covers the basic concepts of English grammar, such as parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation. Students will be expected to be able to use grammar correctly in their writing.

Writing Skills

The writing skills section of the syllabus covers a variety of writing tasks, such as formal letters, analytical paragraphs, and creative compositions. Students will be expected to be able to write clearly and concisely in a variety of styles.


The literature section of the syllabus includes two textbooks: First Flight and Footprints Without Feet. These textbooks contain a variety of literary texts, such as short stories, poems, and plays. Students will be expected to read and understand these texts, and to answer questions about them.

In addition to the textbooks, the syllabus also includes a list of supplementary reading texts. These texts are optional, but they can be helpful for students who want to further their understanding of English literature.

ReadingQuestion-based on the following kinds of unseen passages :-
1. Discursive passage of 400-450 words.
2. Case-based passage (with visual input- statistical data, chart etc.) of 200-250 words.
3. (Total length of two passages to be 600-700 word Multiple Choice Questions / Objective Type Questions will be asked to assess inference, analysis, interpretation, evaluation and vocabulary.
